ACM MM Women’s Lunch 2016

Monday, October 17th, 12:30 until 14:00
VIP room at Theater Tuschinski

The 2016 Women’s Lunch will continue the tradition of SIGMM sponsoring a Womens’ lunch at ACM Multimedia. We are organizing this year’s exciting event which is intended to be a communication and networking platform of the women in the community. This year’s event will also be the starting point to move on towards a more diverse event and more plenary event at future SIGMM MM Conferences. We are warmly inviting you to join the discussion and also on hearing your suggestions on how move on with the event towards a plenary Diversity Lunch from 2017 on.

Speakers at the lunch

  • Teresa Chambel, University of Lisbon, Portugal
    • Teresa will be speaking about her personal experiences as women in ICT and initiatives to discuss and raise awareness about women and girls in ICT and in multimedia.
  • Elisabeth André, University of Augsburg, Germany
    • Elisabeth will talk about strategies to increase people’s awareness of excellent women in research and will illustrate this by a anecdotial story.
  • Anja Volk, Utrecht University, The Netherlands
    • Anja will speak about a mentoring program and how the ISMIR community is currently working on diversity.
  • Susanne Boll, University of Oldenburg, Germany
    • Susanne will report from this year’s diversity lunch at CHI and give a few impulses from this event and the transition from a women’s event into a diversity event.

Lunch Tables

The lunch will be organized in standing tables of about 8 lunch participants at which you may find a cross section of women in the field. New-comers, young professionals, career-switchers/explorers, or senior MM folks: people who care about diversity and women in tech and those interested in learning more, or just supporting the community. Tables will be open seating, and there will be at one Table Leader at each table. The Table leader will ask the guests at the table to introduce themselves, encourage them to ask questions to you and each other, and keep the conversations going with your personal stories.
